Just three hours from the city of Zacatecas are pleasant spots where you can go fishing with the certainty that you’ll find a wide variety of species.

Presa El Chique – Departing from Zacatecas, go 111 km (69 mi) along Federal Highway 54, and then take the turnoff to the right to Km 110. At this dam, you can catch such species as catfish, bluegill, tilapia, Israeli carp and striped bass. Thanks to its gentle slope, it’s possible to launch a boat from the shore.

Presa Miguel Aleman – To arrive at this spot, you’ll need to take Highway 49 from Zacatecas to Gonzalez Ortega, and then follow Highway 23 for 31 km (19 mi) until you reach a turnoff that heads left to the town of Tepechitlan. In this dam, which generally has about 61 million cubic meters (2.1 billion cubic feet) of water, you can hook striped bass, bluegill, catfish, carp and tilapia.
