The city of Xalapa is considered the cultural capital of the state of Veracruz. Consequently, it hosts important musical events, ballet shows and theatrical performances, most of which are offered by student groups from the Universidad Veracruzana. There’s also a very special annual event that takes place at one of Mexico’s most beautiful archaeological sites.

Festival Internacional de Jazz (International Jazz Festival). Various music academies sponsor this jazz festival. The dates and places where it is held vary from year to year. In past editions, it has drawn as many as 6,000 spectators.

Festival Junio Musical (June Music Festival). This event is organized by the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra, which has worked hard to promote music of various genres. The festival draws important figures in music from Mexico and abroad.

Cumbre Tajin (Tajin Summit). This annual festival is held in March and it usually takes place at El Tajin archaeological site. Among the many artistic and cultural events carried out, the most notable is a light and sound show that narrates the history, myths and magic surrounding the pre-Hispanic culture of the Totonacs.

Teatro de Estado Ignacio de la Llave. Located on the corner of Av. Camacho and Ignacio de la Llave. This theater stages prestigious dance acts and concerts. It regularly offers ballet and theater presented by the Universidad Veracruzana. It has two performance halls that seat more than 1,000 spectators.
