In Xalapa you can enjoy delicious Veracruz cuisine, such as tamales, picadas y molotes (plantains that are battered and fried), and a peculiar recipe called chileatole de pollo (a hot soup with a base of chile, leaves from the wormseed plant and corn kernels). You also can enjoy tasty dishes such as red pipian and green mole with pork or chicken. Another local favorite is jalapeño chile peppers stuffed with ground beef or seafood. As for dessert, you’ll have a wide array of options, including milk candy made in the shape of fruit, squash prepared with brown sugar and fruit covered with brown sugar. To accompany your dessert, nothing beats a cup of homegrown coffee.
