About three hours from Xalapa you can visit one of Mexico’s most important archaeological zones, where you’ll see impressive Totonac ruins.

El Tajin. Located 250 km (155 mi) north of Xalapa. This archaeological site is known for its unique architecture, which features niches of many different shapes on the main buildings. You’ll also see reliefs of an ancient ball game and multicolored murals. Open daily from 8:00 to 6:00 in the summer and from 8:00 to 5:00 in the winter.
