In Veracruz and its surrounding areas you can do all kinds of outdoor recreational activities, including hiking, Tyrolean rappelling, horseback riding and exciting rappelling outings with experienced guides.

Port of Veracruz. Located along the city’s shoreline. Off the coast you’ll find one of Mexico’s most important coral reef systems. On the beaches of Veracruz you can take long walks or go horseback riding at Boca del Rio. If you’d like to go on a pleasant walk, we recommend that you take a stroll along the boardwalk, which offers a beautiful view of the port.

Pico de Orizaba National Park. Located 90 km (56 mi) west of Veracruz, off Highway 150. This national park covers 19,750 hectares (48,782 acres) and has the highest mountain in Mexico. At the foothills of the volcano you can go hiking or horseback riding. If you had something more adventurous in mind, we recommend a climb to the top of the volcano, which is covered with snow throughout most of the year. At the park you can hire guides and rent all the equipment you’ll need for a thrilling mountain climbing adventure.

Jalcomulco. Located 143 km (89 mi) northwest of Veracruz and 39 km (24 mi) from Xalapa; lies near the Pescados River. In this town’s environs you’ll find hills and canyons that are ideal for rappelling. The highest cliff in this area is 153 meters (504 feet), which you can reach by ascending a 78-meter (257-foot) ravine. You also find rentals and guides for a Tyrolean rappelling adventure.
