In the surrounding areas of Veracruz you’ll find Mexico’s highest mountain, which is a strong draw for mountain climbers.

Pico de Orizaba National Park. Located 90 km (56 mi) west of Veracruz, off Highway 150. This national park covers 19,750 hectares (48,782 acres) and has the highest mountain in Mexico. This is a perfect place for intermediate and advanced mountain climbers. It has an altitude of 5,747 meters (18,965 feet) above sea level. Here you’ll find lodgings, which also serve as departure points. The more adventurous climbers attempt to reach the volcano’s snow-capped rim..
