In the city of Tlaxcala you’ll find various museums where you can learn about the history and culture of the region, from the pre-Hispanic era to present day.

Museo Regional de Tlaxcala. Located on Calzada de San Francisco, Colonia Centro. In this museum’s nine showrooms, you can learn about the region’s historical development from the pre-Hispanic era to the post-revolutionary period. You’ll also see a collection of pre-Hispanic objects found at archaeological sites in the city’s outskirts. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 5:00.

Museo Vivo de Artes y Tradiciones Populares. Located at 1 Blvd. Emilio Sanchez Piedras. This museum’s mission is to conserve, maintain, promote and commercialize the production of arts and crafts from the state of Tlaxcala. The guides at the museum, who are also the artists, will show you regional garments, tools and altars, and they’ll even explain how pulque is made. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 6:00.

Museo de la Memoria. Located at 3 Avenida Independencia, Colonia Centro. This museum has an exhibit that chronicles the region’s history from 1521 to the end of the 18th century. It also has several computerized displays. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 5:00.
