In Tlaxcala you’ll find a wide variety of products made by local artisans: serapes, rugs from the towns of Contla, Chiautempan and Ixcotla, glazed pottery from San Sebastian Atlahapa, masks from Tlatempan, Talavera pottery and onyx figurines from San Pablo del Monte, beautiful cotton garments from Ixtenco (embroidered with pre-Hispanic and colonial designs), alebrijes (painted wood figures) and cardboard figures from Ixtacuixtla, totomochtlis (figures made from dried corn husks in the town of Espanta), baskets from Nativitas and Santa Apolonia Teacalco. You can also buy glazed earthenware, ceramics and silver from Trinidad Tenexyecac and Tlaxco. You’ll find all of these beautiful items in the market or at the Casa de Artesanias in the downtown area.
