In Taxco’s surrounding areas you’ll find nature areas covered with abundant forest vegetation, allowing you to appreciate the wide variety of species that inhabit the region.

Grutas de Cacahuamilpa National Park – Located 31 km (19 mi) northeast of Taxco, off Highway 55. This protected area of 2700 hectares (6,669 acres) consists of a group of 20 caverns that have peculiar calcareous rock formations. At this park you can explore areas covered with brushwood and deciduous lowland jungle vegetation, which consists of trees that produce beautiful seasonal flowers such as the jacaranda and bougainvillea. Here you also can spy various animal species, including raccoons, ocelots, iguanas, rattlesnakes, eagles and quail.

Cascada de Cacalotenango – Located 13 km (8 mi) west of Taxco, off the state highway. At this spot you can hike through a coniferous forest area. Here you’ll find the Cerro el Cedro, which is where the Plan de Campos stream begins. The stream leads to an 80-meter (264-foot) waterfall. Nearby is a lookout point that offers a panoramic view of the area...
