Numerous religious festivities are carried out in San Luis Potosi throughout the year. The most important celebrations take place during Holy Week. Among the events you’ll see during that time of year are the Viernes de Dolores and the solemn Procesion del Silencio (Procession of Silence), which draw the participation of various religious orders. Other festivities include El Dia de San Sebastian in January, which features regional dance performances, processions, concerts and fireworks shows, and the Fiestas de la Virgin del Carmen and Santiago Apostol, which are held in July. During those celebrations, you’ll see fairs, processions and the so-called Matachines regional dance performances. In August, the city celebrates el Dia de San Luis Rey de Francia, which includes dance performances, processions and fireworks displays. Finally, in September you can witness the festive and joyful celebrations of the Virgen de los Remedios and San Miguel Arcangel.
