Queretaro’s environs offer pleasant camping sites with security and other basic services. At these spots you can enjoy various natural sights, including waterfalls, wildlife and caverns, among others.

Laguna de Servin. Located 72 km (45 mi) from Queretaro and 25 km (15 mi) from Amealco. To get to this lagoon, take Highway 120 to Km 9, then take the turnoff to the left. This natural refuge is the habitat of various bird species and small mammals. Nature enthusiasts will be pleased to find pine and Encino oak forests, as well as natural springs. This is an excellent spot to go camping and hiking.

Parque Nacional Campo Alegre. This national park lies 135 km (84 mi) from Queretaro, in the town of San Joaquin. It is a gorgeous forested area with waterfalls and caverns, making it a great place to go camping. The park offers such services as palapas, potable water, public restrooms, showers, lighting and barbeque grills and pits.

Jalpan. This is an ideal site for camping, as it allows you to enjoy an area surrounded by juniper trees. What’s more, the Jalpan River runs through this region, offering spectacular scenery. Nearby, you’ll find the Puente de Dios cave, which has an underground river that leads to the Jalpan Dam.

San Juan de los Duran. Located 190 km (118 mi) from the city of Queretaro, in the town of Jalpa de Serra. This is part of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve and is one of the best-conserved areas. The Ojo de Agua de San Juan camping grounds are surrounded by coniferous and oak forests, making it an ideal site. Nearby, you can check out the foggy Avispas Gorge.

Cuatro Palos. Located 182 km (113 mi) north of Queretaro, in the town of Pinal de Amoles. Here you can enjoy a camping outing in areas with diverse ecosystems, such as the temperate forests in the high parts of the sierra, or in arid semi-desert terrain like the majestic Cerro de la Media Luna. The town has a restaurant serving local cuisine and tour guides offering their services.

Bernal. Located 59 km (37 mi) from the city of Queretaro, in the town of Ezequiel Montes, off the Queretaro-Mexico Highway 51. Here you can see the famous Peña de Bernal, the third largest monolith in the world, which is 350 meters (1,155 feet) tall. At the top of the rock formation you’ll get a beautiful panoramic view. Nearby, you can go camping in an area with low vegetation and numerous trees...
