In Morelia you’ll find majestic scenery, such as gorgeous mountain areas and forests, which offers the perfect setting for a camping outing. As you enjoy the close contact with nature, you’ll discover a volcanic zone rich in natural resources.

Cerro del Tzirate – Located in Quiroga, 48 km (30 mi) northeast of Morelia off Highway 15. From the foothills of Lake Patzcuaro, you can begin a 14-km (9-mi) hike that will take you through rugged terrain and to the top of Cerro del Tzirate, the state’s second highest peak. There you can pitch tents and enjoy a breathtaking view of the lake and its surrounding areas.

Cerro Hueco – Located in Quiroga, 48 km (30 mi) northeast of Morelia off Highway 15.

Because of its important ecological significance, this natural area is carefully protected. Experienced tour guides will lead you through mountainous terrain and wooded areas that are ideal for camping.

Parque Nacional Barranca de Cupatitzio – Located in Uruapan, 120 km (74 mi) southwest of Morelia off Highway 14. In this 362-hectare (894-acre) national park, you can camp in a transitional forest and learn more about how to conserve the natural habitat of such species as badgers, raccoons, hawks and opossums. You can also visit nurseries to observe how plants and trees are reproduced as part of the park’s reforestation efforts. Finally, you can marvel at an amazing ravine, where the Rodilla del Diablo spring originates and later becomes the Cupatitzio River.
