Merida has many
important museums where you can learn about the history and the
indigenous traditions that have given the state of Yucatan its own
identity.
Museo Regional de Antropologia de Yucatan - Housed in the
lavish rooms of the Palacio Canton, on the first floor the exhibits
offer a broad look at the historical evolution of the Yucatan
Peninsula. Located at Paseo Montejo 485. The Yucatan Regional Museum
of Anthropology is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 to 8:00
and Sunday from 8:00 to 2:00.
Museo de la Cancion Yucateca – Located on 57th Street,
between 48th and 50th streets. Pictures, portraits, biographies and
musical and personal objects of famous Yucatecan musicians are on
display here. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 to 5:00.
Museo de Arte Contemporaneo "Ateneo de Yucatan" (Museo Macay)
– This contemporary art museum displays more than 300 pieces of
regional art ranging from ancient Mayan objects to modern art. Open
Wednesday through Monday from 10:00 to 6:00. Located on 60th and
