In the Lucas
Galvez Market or near the main square you can find beautiful
handmade products made by artisans from Merida. Among those are:
delicate gold and sliver filigrees, many of which are inlaid with
precious stones; huipiles, blouses with colorful trim worn by
Yucatecan women; the traditional guayaberas, short- and long-sleeve
cotton shirts worn by men in the region; and Panama and Jipi hats.
Other popular items you can buy in the White City are silk and
cotton hand-woven hammocks and wood furniture, which is often a true
work of art.
