In Manzanillo you can visit a museum that has become an important tourist and cultural attraction. There, visitors can get a broad overview of the civilizations that once inhabited western Mesoamerica, particularly the pre-Hispanic societies that lived in what is known today as the state of Colima.

Museo Universitario de Arqueologia (University Museum of Archaeology) – Located on Blvd. Miguel de la Madrid, at the San Pedrito roundabout. The museum’s five showrooms exhibit more than 1,800 objects of the Capacha, Ortices, Periquillos, Colima and Armeria cultures. Here you’ll see replicas of two shaft tombs from the Comala era (100 – 700 AD). Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 to 2:00 and Sundays from 10:00 to 1:00.
