The surrounding areas of Guanajuato offer a wide array of natural settings for camping outings. The mountain, sierras and nature reserves, which have a temperate climate, will allow you to enjoy nature while specialized tour companies organize recreational activities.

Zona Recreativa de las PalomasLocated 15 minutes from Guanajuato off Highway 110 in the direction of Dolores Hidalgo, in the Cuenca de la Esperanza. This recreational area is part of the migration path of neotropical birds from Alaska, Canada and the United States. Near the Santa Rosa Sierras, one of the best spots to discover the biodiversity of Guanajuato’s surrounding areas, you can go camping in forests of Encino oaks and explore the zone’s rocky formations and rugged terrain.

Area Natural Protegida Sierra de LobosLocated 55 km (34 mi) northwest of Guanajuato and 30 km (18 mi) north of the city of Leon. Also known as the Vergel de la Sierra. This natural area has played an important role in protecting the Mexican wolf, which is how it got its original name. This protected reserve has numerous dams and cliffs where you can take in spectacular views while camping. It also has a comfortable hotel complex where you can relax and enjoy the peace and harmony of nature.
