One of Aguascalientes’
top sporting events are the bullfights. In fact, its bullfight
arenas are considered among Mexico’s best. For artistic events, the
city has spectacular theaters.
Plaza de Toros Monumental – Located on Av. Adolfo Lopez
Mateos. Considered the second most important bullfight arena in
Mexico, this venue can hold up to 15,000 spectators. The best
matadors from Mexico and abroad have performed here. In addition, it
is the only bullfight arena in the world that has elevator access
for seniors and disabled people.
Plaza de Toros de San Marcos – Located at 222 Eduardo J.
Correa. Built in just 48 days, this was Aguascalientes’ first
bullfight arena. Today, it is used as a school for bullfighters, and
during the San Marcos National Fair it hosts amateur bullfights.
Teatro Morelos – Located at 113 Nieto. This venue was
designated a national heritage site after revolutionary leaders
gathered here to sign the so-called Sovereign Convention of 1914.
The building’s most striking feature is the neoclassical-style pink
stone façade. The interior, also of neoclassical style, houses a
museum on the second floor.
Teatro de Aguascalientes – Located on the corner of Avenida
Insurgentes and Blvd. Jose Maria Chavez. This modern construction,
which was inaugurated in 1991, holds 1,650 spectators and has state-of-the-art
technology. It is considered the city’s most important venue for art
and cultural events. Here you can see dance, folkloric shows,
classical and pop music concerts and theatrical performances, among
